The program aims to create professionals contributing to the modernization and improvement of the public sector. Specifically, it aims to:

  • Expand the skills and capabilities of participants for successful careers in the narrow or broader public sector.
  • Train specialized professionals with knowledge and skills in Public Administration, particularly in the areas of International Accounting Standards and International Standards on Auditing.

The program targets individuals with prior experience in the financial audit of public sector entities and recent graduates with a similar professional orientation. It is suitable for:

• Graduates aiming to work or be employed in the narrow or broader public sector, international organizations, or entities collaborating with the public sector.

• Professionals already holding administrative, auditing, and other roles in the public sector, interested in their professional development.

The program is offered on a part-time basis, lasting either three or four semesters. Successful completion requires attending twelve courses.

The tuition fees amount to €4.800 and are payable in equal installments before the start of each semester.

Classes are held at 14 Evripidou Street, at the facilities of the Department of Economic Sciences, and 28 Kapodistriou Street, at the facilities of the Hellenic Institute of Certified Public Accountants (SOEL).

 

Lectures are exclusively on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Most οf classes are conducted in person, with some using distance learning methods that do not exceed 35% of the educational program.

  • Teaching responsibility lies primarily with the Teaching-Research Staff of the Department of Economic Sciences at the NKUA.
  • Accounting and Auditing courses are mainly taught by members of the Institute of Education of SOEL (IESOEL), who are specialized scientists and experienced professionals in these specific subjects.
  • Specialized scientists with extensive professional and teaching experience also contribute to the instruction.

1st Semester

The compulsory courses of the 1st semester are:

  1. Economic Policy
  2. Financial Management in the Public Sector
  3. Microeconomics and Financial Management of Public Enterprises and Organizations
  4. Accounting: Financial Statements and Public Accounting.

2nd Semester

The compulsory courses of the 2nd semester are:

  1. Public/Administrative Law
  2. Public Sector Auditing
  3. International Public Sector Accounting Standards I
  4. International Standards on Auditing I.

3rd Semester

The compulsory courses of the 3rd semester are:

  1. International Public Sector Accounting Standards II
  2. International Standards on Auditing II
  3. Information Systems in the Public Sector.

One elective course must be chosen from the following:

  1. Administrative Law
  2. Local Government and Social Development
  3. VAT – Tax Data and Accounting System
  4. Taxation Issues of Public Enterprises and Organizations
  5. Costing of Public Sector Services.

Each compulsory or elective course corresponds to 7,5 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits.

The Department of Statistics and Actuarial-Financial Mathematics at the University of the Aegean collaborates administratively with the Department of Economics at the University of Athens (EKPA), which holds administrative responsibility and primary teaching responsibility for the Postgraduate Program in Applied Economics and Financial Management.

The “Public Auditing” is conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (SOEL). This partnership aims to impart academic knowledge from EKPA professors and practical knowledge and experience from the Certified Public Accountants of SOEL, the official auditing body of Greece, in the fields of economics, accounting, and auditing.

The program is particularly beneficial for those already employed or intending to work in positions within the narrow or broader public sector (Public Services, Ministries, Audit Mechanisms, Public Enterprises, Local Government, Regions, Hospitals, Insurance Funds, Semi-Governmental Organizations, Non-Profit Organizations, etc.).

Applications, along with the necessary supporting documents, are submitted electronically through the program’s website.

For students who have not completed their studies, they can apply with the condition that they are missing no more than 1/6 of the Department’s Study Program in which they are enrolled.
